AbbeyMoor CEO To Speak At After Hours Event - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 AbbeyMoor Medical Inc. CEO John Reid will share his company's path to success in a small rural Minnesota town at the next Science Initiative After Hours event on April 17. Regulatory Affairs Director Named - Monday, March 10, 2008 Charles (Chuck) Swanson, recognized worldwide as a leading expert in medical device regulatory affairs, has been appointed director of the St. Cloud State University Master of Science in Regulatory Affairs and Services (MS-RAS) Program. Professor David DeGroote, dean of the College of Science and Engineering, announced the appointment March 10. read more ...

St. Cloud Area Receives Bioscience Designation - Friday, January 25, 2008
The chances of attracting bioscience companies to the St. Cloud area are enhanced with the recent formal state approval of a Central Minnesota Bioscience Zone."Being accredited as a bioscience zone will allow us to compete in the world market with other zones in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Rochester," said State Representative Larry Haws. Minnesota Department of Economic Development (DEED) Commissioner Dan McElroy announced that the greater St. Cloud area of Central Minnesota’s six-city joint application for Bioscience Zone Designation has been approved. read more ...

SICM Sets Date for Next After Hours Event - Wednesday, January 16, 2008 St. Cloud Technical College will host the next SICM After Hours event on April 17. The event is designed to connect business and academic leaders to create synergy around bioscience efforts. The Science Initiative of Central Minnesota previously hosted After Hours events at the College of St. Benedict and St. Cloud State University.

SICM Hosts first SICM After Hours - Tuesday, November 13, 2007 The Science Initiative of Central Minnesota hosted SICM After Hours on Nov. 13 at St. Cloud State University. The event gave participants an opportunity to network with other business professionals and educators and learn more about the new Regulatory Affairs and Services degree program at SCSU.

SICM hosts biobusiness marketing meeting - Thursday, July 26, 2007 The Science Initiative of Central Minnesota hosted a biobusiness marketing meeting in late July. Presenters include Don Gerhardt from LifeScience Alley; Kevin McKinnon, DEED bioscience industry specialist; and Dale Wahlstrom or Jeremy Lenz from the BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota. About 25 business leaders and legislators were in attendance. The key message was "collaboration, collaboration, collaboration." The presenters liked the structure of the Science Initiative of Central Minnesota and want our participation in a statewide bioscience community.

SCSU launches master's in regulatory affairs - Monday, June 18, 2007 St. Cloud State University will begin offering a master's of science degree in regulatory affairs and services this fall. This program is believed to be the first in the country to focus specifically on medical devices and the first to be located in the Midwest. Classes will be held on nights and weekends at a location in the northwest suburbs of the Twin Cities. Central Minnesota contingency heads to BIO 07 - Thursday, April 12, 2007 Three representatives from the Science Initiative of Central Minnesota (SICM) will be in attendance at the BIO '07 in Boston from May 7-9. They will join together with local businesses Sun Plastics and DCI, Inc. to promote Central Minnesota .
This group will be a part of the Minnesota Pavilion sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). BIO 2007 is the world's largest gathering of bio-technology leaders in science, business and government. Visit the event Web site at www.bio.org for more information.

Science Initiative sponsors Central Minnesota Alley Chats - Saturday, March 24, 2007 On March 22, more than 100 business professionals came together at CentraCare Health Plaza for Life Science Alley's "Alley Chats," a networking opportunity for professionals who work in the life science fields and interested in helping Central Minnesota become a center for science-based businesses. The Science Initiative of Central Minnesota was one of the sponsors.
